Evangelism 101 & 102

This course is designed to introduce the individual believer to Evangelism and the soul-winning process as set forth in scripture and mandated by the Lord Jesus Christ and to prepare the student for further involvement
in learning the art of witnessing.

Evangelism 101 Midterm Notes

Ralph Quere states in his book “Evangelism Witness” that evangelism is proclaiming the Good News that Christ died and rose to rescue the world from sin and death. The rescue operation is for burdened, broken, and bound people. Forgiveness, fulfillment, and freedom are its blessings and benefits. This rescue does not imply escape from the world. We still have to deal with sin within others and ourselves. We still have to deal with grief and tragedy in life.

  • We still have to fight evil in and around us. In fact we are thrust back into the world to become a part of God’s mission of reconciling and restoring his creation.
  • Evangelism is assigned to all believers; One does not have to be skilled, just a believer. The mandate and the mission is for us all. But we must be trained. And our training comes from the Word of God.
  • The Bible is the Word. II Tim. 3:16/II Peter 1:20-21
  • And our mission is the same as Jesus’; to seek and save that which is lost-Luke 19:10
  • And of course the mandate, the orders for this mission, is found in Matt. 28: 18-20
  • Now never get it twisted, we are not the source of salvation; we can’t save anyone. Jesus Christ is the source, we are only the conduit or the ambassador for salvation. Eph 2: 8-9
  • And we are to witness to the whole world, beginning in Jerusalem – Luke 24: 46-49
  • Sin has no power over us. But the presence and power of sin CAN influence us.
  • According to John 20:21, God the Father sent Jesus and Jesus the Son sends us.
  • According to John 15:12-14, therer is no greater love than a man lay down his life.
  • The six steps in building Christian maturity are Orientation, Home Visitation, C. B. T. Training, Teaching, Evangelism, and Discipleship.
  • The primary reference book for this class is the Holy Bible;  the secondary reference book is Disciples Are Born Not Made, written by Walter Hendrichsen
  • The subject of Chapter 3 of this book is The Cost of Discipleship.
  • According to II Corinthians 5:11 there are 4 reasons to witness:
    • Knowing the terror of God – We fear and respect God
    • To persuade men – Help people accept the truth
    • We are made manifest unto God – God Knows who we are
    • We manifest in our consciences – We know who WE are
